Our colleagues at Motor Trend snapped this photo of a mystery crossover testing on the streets of New York City. Although the thick camouflage hides much of the car’s bodywork, we believe the vehicle seen here is a new version of the Hyundai Santa Fe.
The length of the vehicle seen here betrays the fact that it is likely a three-row crossover. Moreover, the three-bar chrome grille that peeks out from beneath the camo looks strikingly similar to the grilles seen on the Hyundai Genesis and Sonata. And we wouldn’t be at all surprised that Hyundai is planning a new version of the Santa Fe, given that the current generation was introduced in mid-2006 for model-year 2007.
Back in September we spotted a heavily disguised Hyundai Santa Fe towing a trailer in Europe. Previous rumblings have suggested that a new version of the crossover would most likely go on sale by the end of 2012, with its official unveil coming as early as the Los Angeles or Detroit auto show.
Head over to Motor Trend to set out the full set of spy photos.
